So I have decided that the base I shall be building, will be largely influenced by Hogwarts as it is seen in the movies. It is quite a large castle, so it will most likely take me many weeks if not months, but I thought it might be nice to make a threat about it in which I will post updates along with pictures on how it's going!
This picture is what I'm primarily using for reference: [Only admins are allowed to see this image]
Anyhow, here are the first few pictures!
[Only admins are allowed to see this image] I started to build the underground mob spawner. I dislike them because they're often big and ugly, so I want to make it underground, which comes with the extra benefit of gathering lots and lots of cobble/smooth stone!
[Only admins are allowed to see this image] Yay smooth stone!
[Only admins are allowed to see this image] Hogwarts is built on a mountain, that is split by a river in the middle. I want to first start working on the west side of the river, and as can be seen here I laid down the blueprints for how large I want it to be. (This is the area with the largest tower, and also with the great hall)
[Only admins are allowed to see this image] I built the front of the fake hollow mountain, and most importantly I started building the great hall! I still have to add glass and a roof and the back walls aren't finished, and I'm also not completely satisfied with the details on the front wall, but it's a start.
And that's what I did today! I'll be updating as I continue to build more, and any feedback from you guys would always be appreciated!

Brilliant idea! But I think the solution to your problem with the detail on the external part of the great hall might be quite... demanding. I reckon the problem is scale; to be able to "fit" the high detail and tessellation of the walls you'll need to scale up quite a considerable amount :/

Of course it doesn't have to be perfect, but will make it way more interesting if you add those details, and more of course. If you need or want some help just ask, I will really be enjoying this project
And my stack of diamonds will be waiting if you actually finish it

Not planning on keeping it simple, and very nice pictures, thanks! Is that picture of the hallway/stairway of the London Museum? It looks very familiar.

Very nice! So far I've been mostly thinking about the exterior of the castle, but these pictures give me some nice reference on how to do the interior of the castle. But my challenge is that I also want it to become a fully functional base, with all the automatic farms incorporated in the castle itself while also maintaining the most important of rooms from the original harry potter castle (like the great hall, the clock tower, the chamber of secrets, etc). I can do the vegetables and wheat etc in the greenhouses that Hogwarts has, but for stuff like an Iron Golem Farm I will have to find space (I was thinking of building two towers with these built into them). Anyhow, it's gonna require lots of planning and thinking!
Edit: And Yeah, I loved the Harry Potter games when I was a child! I played only the first 2 though, but it was awesome!
Edit 2: Also, I have decided to remove what I have built so far, and to use sandstone instead. I dislike the low contrast of the mountain with the castle, and in the movies the stone has more yellowish tint to it, so I wouldn't do it justice by using simple bricks. I'm thinking of using gray or dark gray wool blocks for roof.

haha one picture reminded me of the harry potter game i played in playstation 1 many years back xD
Same! I still have that game and the second one. But me and my brother never beaten first once since it's so difficult for us then. We always get stuck on the Chessboard part.
