The outer wall around my island is now finished apart from the fences, and so i have build the first part of the actual fortress. It's the watchtower that stands above the landing dock:

Eventually, yes. But it won't all be buildings, there will be some gardens/fields for crops/animal pens as well. Since the garrison will need food as well
But there will definitely be a lot of towers and castle structures.
