PostSubject: Hogwarts! Fri May 17, 2013 9:20 pm

First topic message reminder :

Hi all!

So I have decided that the base I shall be building, will be largely influenced by Hogwarts as it is seen in the movies. It is quite a large castle, so it will most likely take me many weeks if not months, but I thought it might be nice to make a threat about it in which I will post updates along with pictures on how it's going!

This picture is what I'm primarily using for reference:

Anyhow, here are the first few pictures!

I started to build the underground mob spawner. I dislike them because they're often big and ugly, so I want to make it underground, which comes with the extra benefit of gathering lots and lots of cobble/smooth stone!

Yay smooth stone!

Hogwarts is built on a mountain, that is split by a river in the middle. I want to first start working on the west side of the river, and as can be seen here I laid down the blueprints for how large I want it to be. (This is the area with the largest tower, and also with the great hall)

I built the front of the fake hollow mountain, and most importantly I started building the great hall! I still have to add glass and a roof and the back walls aren't finished, and I'm also not completely satisfied with the details on the front wall, but it's a start.

And that's what I did today! I'll be updating as I continue to build more, and any feedback from you guys would always be appreciated!

That's what I love about Minecraft. There is more than one way to do everything, and no way is the right way. Wink

lol, that's what I thought. Otherwise it's not really infinate... I guess I should set up a hopper fed furnance system... Anyone have any good, compact designs?

I guess you just put one hopper on the side or back of the furnace for the fuel
Put a hopper on top for the stuffs u wanna smelt
and a hopper at the bottom for the smelted item

Yeah, I'll have a play around with it, I just thought someone might have a super effiecient design, with multiple furnaces for faster smelting, all feeding into one 'completed' chest!

Course you can! If I'm not around, there is a small storage chamber off the throne room in my base. It's full of all my overflow cobble. Just help yourself to as much as you want!

For a moment I got very excited, thinking there was some way involving hoppers to smelt infinitely without fuel, oh the disappointment Sad

lol, you and me both!

Sam, it should affect it as it will be more than 70 blocks apart so they will all be counted as seperate villages.

Sorry, typo. SHOULDN'T!! lol

Building material wise, If you look at mine, it is mostly made out of snow, as I set up a snow farm next to it whilst I built it. The one Nath built with Kody is made of wool, and they set up a huge sheep farm.

It makes it a lot easier if you have an infinate source or building materials for the farm. Just something to think about, you are still welcome to as much of my cobble as you want!

owh because my area is mostly made out of stone bricks and bricks, so I thought I'd stick with the "theme" lol

thanks Wil ><

Wow this thread got way off topic. But as far as smooth stone, nothing beats an eff V, silktouch diamond pick and a Haste 2 beacon.

Ok on topic.

Sandstone would probably fit better, since the castle is "yellowish" tongue
And blue for the roofs Wink

Some pictures of the outside to help you out Smiley

Wow, those are some amazing pictures of the castle, I'll definitely be able to use them! Anyways though, it's update time!

This time not on the server though, I decided to first try building the great hall in creative mode. Since it is probably the most iconic part of Hogwarts, I want it to look perfect. I feel like I did a much better job now! I used stone brick for the roofs, as there are no wool stairs or slabs, which is what I also need for creating the best roof possible, and it actually looks pretty nice too.

Of course the interior hasn't really been done yet. There's three floors in the current building, a basement that I plan on using as my storage room, the great hall that I will keep authentic, and an attic that can be seen in the pictures of which I have no idea yet. Feedback is always appreciated!

Try again, I think something went wrong with the last 3 pictures as I also couldn't see them myself, but should work now!

Edit: Also, how do I place the pictures within a spoiler?

You mean the front of the building with all the pillars and the glass, or the front of the building where the door is?
